Day 7 - Museum and ice skating

Woke a little late this morning, could just see a bit of snow on the leaves of the trees, soon gone with a shower of rain.  After discussing all our 'rain' options the sun decided to come out as some of us went shopping for some last minute Christmas stuff and some visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
We all met at the Met at about 2pm and had hotdogs, chips and other foods for lunch at the food van outside the museum.  Then some fool suggested ice skating in Central Park.  Walked down through Central Park to the southern skating rink and away we went.
Luke was the expert with Chris and Emily looking like old hands.  Despite the three grandchildren never having put on a skate before they managed quite well.  Felicity thought falling over was great fun so she used  anyone to help her.  William went well until he had a big fall and injured his body.  Elliott persisted and managed to bring down a couple of us.  Amanda and Pam were the cautious two and managed to stay on their feet.  I took to it like a duck to water, the only problem I found were the rank amateurs trying to cut me off or falling in front of me, causing me to end up on the ice maybe more than ten times.  Lucky there is no video evidence of their incompetence or I'd sue them all......
I broke my wrist, elbow, crushed a couple of discs in my back, split my knee cap, dislocated both shoulders and bruised every muscle I own.  The medical costs in the US are horrendous so I'm going to have to carry my injuries till we get home.  Fortunately the only place I didn't fall on was my face, so my good looks have been preserved.
The sun goes down here at 4.30 so we ended up ice skating in Central Park on Christmas Eve under lights.  So amazing, I'd pinch myself but I can't find anywhere that doesn't hurt!!!!
Bought some beer and alcohol (medicinal use only) on the way home, ordered in fried chicken for tea then kicked off our traditional Holcombe Christmas Eve Cocktail Night, happy days. (No photos of the participants of the night due to litigation threats.......)

Amanda and Pam wanted to pose then be Photoshopped on to the ice, no time, the pose is good though?
This is the only known photo of these two, we think they may have been skating so fast the photographers
missed their chance to snap a shot?

Park Avenue on the way home, just a little weary
Merry Christmas, all we need is Santa!!!!!

  1. You're just making me more envious!!! Think we'll have to time our trip for winter, you're all having such a wonderful time. Pam, have you honoured Mum by breaking into 'Winter Wonderland' as you skate around on the ice? Or Dad with 'I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas'?
Stunning photo of Elliott with the out of focus building behind him. Very arty, love it!
Different exhibitions at the Met from when we were there, but still a great place.
Keep publishing; I'm really enjoying your adventures!
    Love Maur
