Day 11 - Niagara Falls and home to NYC

Another 5.30 alarm to have breakfast then down to the falls. We just got back from our walk last night and the wind and rain started, it was still happening this morning but predicted to stop at 7am - right on schedule it stopped raining! Phew!!  One thing I have learnt in the parks surrounding the falls - squirrels build nests, high up in the trees, made of leaves, sticks and moss, I thought they always lived in hollow trees??
We walked out along the observation deck for photos of the Falls, then to Fort Niagara National Park which was a fort built by the French to control trade going into the Great Lakes and beyond. It is at the mouth of the Niagara River which flows into Lake Ontario making it a very strategic outpost, of course it was overrun by the British and American until they all decided to work together to rip off the locals in the fur trade.
Back to town to watch a movie about the formation of the falls and some of the crazy stunts in its history. Late smoko then head south for 2.5 hour drive to the Corning Glass Factory and Museum. All the rain last night managed to melt most of the snow, lots of water lying in the paddocks along the way. Interesting glass blowing demonstration at Corning, wander around the complex, a late lunch and on the bus for 4.5 hours back to NYC, a very long drive after two busy days but well worth the effort.
Home now after a short subway trip from Chinatown - 9pm, everyone is exhausted - sleep in tomorrow (OR ELSE!!!)

Lots of photos of the Falls with some family in front

This bloke did a demonstration of his flintlock firearm - scared the bejesus out of the children!!!
He then spent the rest of the morning yelling at people for walking of the grass and standing on the walls.
