A less than perfect nights sleep for me, Pam and Luke walked the kids to school while I had breakfast. Came back and we left early (by New York standards) to go down to the Rockefeller Centre, Times Square and Bryants Park. To walk from the apartment we walk a couple of blocks over to Central Park then walk all the way down 5th Avenue along the Park and in to the centre of Manhattan.
Central Park is looking very bare in the middle of winter, still looks fascinating though, looking through the trees to all the surrounding buildings and all the leaves on the ground being rustled by frantic squirrels preparing late for winter!!
The weather is not too bad, ranging from about zero to about 5 degrees, the cold is easy to cope with, what really drives us nuts is having to drag all our clothes on before we go out then drag it all off everytime we go into shops. We are exhausted at the end of the day just from all our clothing aerobics!! A light shower of rain this afternoon, not enough to wet too much. On our first day here puddles of water in the gutters were solid ice so it was a big contrast to our Aussie weather.
On past all the shops decorated for Christmas and on to the Rockefeller Centre where there are lots of decorations, a huge Christmas tree and of course the ice skating. Couldn't get a coffee there because they only allowed people to sit who were buying breakfast. Headed to Times Square, Luke thought it should be called Times Triangle due to its' geometric shape??? Coffee fix sorted out. We wandered around for a while, Pam bought some shoes then it was off to Bryants Park Christmas Markets. So many Christmas stalls and more ice skating. Walked around till we dropped, we each had a different lunch from one of the many international food stalls, a little bit of hot apple cider to warm the body.
Decided it was time to get home to collect the children from school, of course we were running a little late but got to the school just as William was organising the two young ones. He is very responsible to walk through the streets to collect his brother and sister!!
Got home absolutely worn out, Pam and I went out to get some groceries, Amanda came home from school before beer and wine calmed all our nerves.
Pam and I did a very short walk after tea to West 73rd Street after tea, we were driven home by some steady rain but beautiful lights.
