Day 18 - Top of the Rock, Madison Square Garden, Broadway

Luke went down with the dreaded flu last night so he really struggled sleeping overnight so Pam and I left on our own this morning after walking the children to school.  Went down to the Rockefeller Centre and went to the top, gorgeous view and freezing cold on the top, nice sunny day with lots of haze across the city.  Luke messaged after smoko to say he had showered and was on his way into town, we met him for lunch at Sean's Bar then decided to do the Madison Square Garden stadium tour.  Lots of history here - this is where Marilyn Monroe sang happy birthday to JFK, Muhammad Ali fought Joe Frazier in 1971; an event is on here almost every day with ice hockey and basketball being dominant tenants.
Luke then went home while Pam and I lined up for Broadway tickets for tonight, managed to get Chicago tickets.
Off we went to Chicago, had some delicious tea from one of the street vendors near the theatre then were ushered to our seats, Luke was generous enough to offer to buy us our first drink.  He came back quite pale, 3 wines cost him $81........  I had paid for lunch for the three of us today - 3 pub lunches and 5 alcoholic drinks and it cost me $80.  The tickets for tonight cost $77!!!!
In any event - Pam and I had a great laugh, Luke eventually saw the funny side after we pointed out each glass (it's actually a cup) had about 350mls of wine in each.  Let's just say we didn't get drunk last night!!!
The show was brilliant, I didn't know any of the songs but the singing, dancing and story line was so good and so professional, lots of humour and audience interaction and the theatre was so small we could really see the whites of the performers eyes.  We all had a good time and got into bed a little after midnight.

Rockefeller Centre

From the Top of the Rock - Central Park - none of the trees have any leaves so it's a little brown.

Serious business....

Left arrow is where Harley, Amanda et al live.  Right arrow is where Harley works.  Amanda works at The Bronx - about on the horizon.

Looking down on a couple of the viewing decks below us.

  1. Vern and Pam,
Ah what memories. 😀. I keep going to my pics to relive our visits. 🤪
So glad everyone’s health has recovered. Nothing worse than being poorly on hols and far from home.
You both are looking good and having a good time.

All our illnesses have abated so we're ready for anything, except maybe that mongrel flight home!!?? We'll have to do it though, see you sometime this year, Pam and vernon
